Correspondence 1960-1987.

The records consist of the correspondence of the administrators of the Division of World Missions and the Division for World Mission and Inter-Church Cooperation of The American Lutheran Church. These administrators include Executive Directors Rolf A. Syrdal, Theodore P. Fricke, Morris A. Sorenson, Jr., and Mark Thomsen, and Secretaries for Africa and Madagascar Lowell Hesterman and James L. Knutson. The correspondence is divided into four sections. They are the Danish Sudan Mission; the Sudan United Mission (SUM), Danish Branch; the Lutheran Church of Christ in the Sudan (LCCS, later called the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, LCCN); and missionaries. Correspondents with the Danish Sudan Mission include General Secretary Ernst I. Engskov, Chairman A. Pilgaard Pedersen, and Treasurer K. Verterager Pedersen. These files are arranged by date rather than by correspondent. The correspondence with SUM, Danish Branch is arranged by office and then by officer. These include Field Superintendents A. Pilgaard Pedersen, Ernst B. Hojvig, Martin Houmʻller-Jʻrgensen, and Gunnar Jorgensen and Treasurers Kurt Vesterager Pedersen and M.C. Sorensen; In addition to the Danish Branch officers, there is a folder for Geoffrey Dearsley, field secretary for all of SUM. The LCCS and LCCN records are also divided by office, with records of President Bishop Akila Todi, Secretaries Anthony D. Bumbum and Martin Houmøller-Jørgensen, and Treasurers Eli Chumaro, Bodil Torp, and Anna Kristiansen. The missionary files, which contain form letters, stories, and routine correspondence, are arranged alphabetically.
